As yous guys knows, mes is a senior cat. Mes has different needs from a younger cat.
Senior Cat |
Mes wanted to shares some things about us oldsters
Mommy gives mes soft and warm spots.
Mes used to prefers to sleeps on the floor, but now, if mes sleeps there, mes gets awfully sore. Mommy has nice soft warm spots made up for mes in all kinds of places. Besides my heated cubby (which needs to be replaced before winter). Mes has a heated blanket on the sofa, an cuddly bed on the bed (thanks yous Speedy) and a fuzzy soft furry blanket under the bed. There is a soft flat furry bed under the cat tree, and a box on its side with a blanket inside, inside the closet. Yes...mes sometimes does sleeps on the floor--STILL, but now that Mommy has put some flat warm blankets on the floor, mes prefers to sleeps on them.
Mommy gives mes a lift.
Even though mes can't see as good as mes used to, mes still likes to sit on the top of the cat tree and looks out the window, but mes can't gets up there without help. Mommy puts a board from the tree to the sofa so mes can gets there by myself when she is not home. And sometimes, Mommy knows mes wants up-- to some places (like the counter and she lifts mes up and down.
Mommy is gentle with mes.
When mes was young, mes could jump from the floor to the top of the fridge and then back down without any problems. Now mes old, mes hurts, mes sometimes mes has trouble jumping from the floor to the sofa and back down. When me did bad things before, Mes might get pushed off of a lap, but now, Mommy knows this hurts and she is furry careful with mes. Mommy picks me up and puts me down gently as sometimes just landing on the floor from the sofa can hurts.
Mommy enjoys every minute with me.
Me is a well-cared-for cat and mes has lived into my late teens and my Merlin lived even longer! Our humans did not distance themselves because they was thinking we might die soon and did not want to gets hurt from us dying, they KNOWS everything will die (eventually) and has loved us lots and lots, as long as we’s alive. If yous has fears around death, please work on those so that yous can loves your cat until the furry end. Wes loves yous unconditionally.
If yous is a senior, what does your Mommy and Daddy does special?
Kisses
Nellie
Aw, your mommy is taking very good care of you, sweet Nellie! Before we lost Star, she had problems with stiff joints and we made ways for her to get up on her favorite spots without having to jump too much. A well placed box does wonders. So did coconut oil, really helped her move better. She was well loved all the way to the end, and past. Thank you for sharing that, we hate seeing senior kitties getting dumped in shelters, especially when they are really really old. I mean, seriously, you can't give it just a couple more months people? sheesh!
ReplyDeleteMy human does nothing at all special for Binga, who is the oldest cat here - she will be 16 in August. That's because, for some crazy reason, she is in great health and still is able to jump on lots of stuff and take over the whole house with her big personality. But if she were frail, my human would do all the things necessary to make her comfortable.
ReplyDeleteMom has had 5 cats that reached senior age and has loved every minute of every day with them. Simon is a senior now but he gets along pretty good. But sometimes he does need help getting up and down and mom is happy to help him.
ReplyDeleteNellie what a wonderful post. You are describing a lot of the things my Mom has been doing for me too - I have trouble with the stairs in our house and Mom will carry me up and down if I can't manage myself (I try to do it by myself first though!).....and I don't jump up on furniture like I used to. I have lots of comfy beds but even though my shoulders hurt a lot I STILL sleep on the floor instead of a bed or blankie except in the winter when I love my fleecies! It's not bad being older - when we have Moms and Dads who love us and take such good care of us. I'm not afraid to die and Mom knows that I'll always and forever be in her heart so while she will miss me, she will feel me with her until she comes to join me one day! Sending you lots of gentle hugs deareat Nellie.............old cats RULE!
ReplyDeleteLove, Sammy
Your mommy looks after you very well Nellie. I don't really suffer with stiffness and can get up and down everywhere on my own still, but because I have been ill for nearly 2 years now and sometimes seriously ill it has left me quite frail and without much energy. I still love to go in my fields so mum carries me there so I can walk around and check everything is in order. Then she carries me back home again. I used to love butt smacks but she tells me I am so bony it would hurt me now. She gives me gentle butt pats instead. It's not the same but better than nothing.
ReplyDeleteSocks here, well since I am so very thin unlike the other cats I get to snack between meals. Mommy also helps me get up on things and she has lots of soft blankets for me to lay on too. ~Socks the Senior Kitty at ATCAD
ReplyDeleteYour mom does take good care of you, as is befitting. We're getting older too. It especially shows with me, Toby. I have arthritis problems, we think.

ReplyDeleteOur elder Buddy is 16 has some health issues but he has bounced back. He gets around pretty well and still jumps up on the couch and climbs on the bed without help. Dad does pamper him but that is fine with us. We know we will be there someday too.

ReplyDeleteThank you very much for a loving, lovely and thoughtful post about senior cats. It is sensible and thoughtful and we will share it a lot!
Nellie what a wonderful post indeed! yes we have a house full of seniors here and we also provide more comfy warm spots for old bones and muscles..we watch diets carefully we monitor litter trays and in general we just treat the girls like we would like to be treated..i ache and hurt so i can relate..and with the pups well before Forrest left we put big rugs down as he was frightened of slipping on the floorboards..we had slightly lower to the ground beds for both he and Doc for easy in and out..we have a ramp for the car etc..because our frosty faced seniors are so sweet and deserve to be happy and comfy..we snuggle more not less..and yes we know as they are all old that our time is limited but that makes us spend more time not less with them.
ReplyDeleteLove you too bits you sweet old meezer :) loves Fozziemum xxxx

Great post Nellie! So glad your mom is taking such good care of you! I was just shy of 15 when I went OTRB. I was pretty active until the end. The last few days mom was really good to me. She helped me up and down on stuff as needed and showed me lots of luv! That's what senior kitty's need the most and it sounds like you are swimming in luv!
